For more than two decades, Dream Quest has been creating opportunities for young people in Klamath Trinity Region to learn, grow, and build brighter futures. Founded in 2001 by Gary Barker and now led by Executive Director Trish Oakes, Dream Quest has become a trusted community resource where youth can explore their interests, develop practical skills, and discover new possibilities.
Programs are designed to meet youth where they are and encourage growth through hands-on experiences. Offerings include after-school programming, performing arts, visual arts, work experience and career development through the StepUP Program, service-learning projects, community meals, cooking and gardening classes, water safety education, outdoor adventures, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and more. As community needs evolve, Dream Quest continues to expand and adapt its programming.
Partnership is at the heart of Dream Quest’s work. The organization collaborates with families, schools, businesses, nonprofits, local agencies, and community leaders to create meaningful opportunities for youth throughout the region. For more than a decade, Dream Quest has also served as the Trinity River Basin Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) youth provider, helping young people ages 14-24 gain valuable job skills, paid work experience, and educational support.
One of Dream Quest’s greatest measures of success comes years later, when former participants return as adults to share how their experiences helped shape their lives. Those stories continue to inspire the staff, volunteers, and supporters who make Dream Quest possible.
The Dream Quest Thrift Store is another important part of the organization’s work. Filled with clothing, household goods, books, toys, furniture, seasonal décor, and one-of-a-kind finds, the store offers affordable shopping while helping fund Dream Quest’s youth programs. It also serves as a hands-on training site where teens and young adults can build workplace skills and gain valuable job experience in a supportive environment.
Surrounded by the rivers, forests, and mountains of this region, Dream Quest reflects the resilience and generosity of the community that created it. More than twenty years after opening its doors, the organization continues to invest in local youth while helping strengthen the community for generations to come.
